Dance produces an empathetic-kinesthetic relationship connecting the viewer and performer. I am drawn to questions that revolve around relationships, in which I try to find answers through physical movement and story-telling. Live performance consistently transforms just as I do, which is why I want to create and be a part of work that presents my ever-changing storyline of who I am as an artist, in relationship to those around me.

As a choreographer, I strive to create stories that are influenced by not only my dancers, but the music, the space, the world that we’re stepping into and creating. I encourage my dancers to be curious, to play, to find their own interpretation of the movement. Coming from a theatre background, I want my dancers to create and connect to who they are in the work, no matter the style of dance. I’m drawn to dynamic, versatile dancers, and how I can highlight their similarities and differences, in turn, connecting with the audience in this shared experience.

As a teacher, I aim to create a safe space where my students can take risks, try something new, and feel supported from not only myself, but their peers. My classes consist of a melting pot of the styles that have influenced me: ballet, modern, jazz & tap. I know not everyone has trained in these styles, though, I want students to see how each style influences the next and how they can take this into their own practice. I will always be their biggest advocate and cheerleader for their individuality and their health and safety, both in and out of the studio. As an educator, we cannot be blind to the difficulties and hardships of the world, and know that as dancers, the “outside world”, has influence on how we show up for ourselves and each other. Gender, Sexuality, Race, Class, Privilege, Location, Age, and Ability will be different for every student. As a teacher, I will always support my students and never stand for hate in or out of the classroom.

Every day I am learning from my students and taking away something that they have taught me. Through their voices, opinions, and ideas, I become a better teacher and evolve myself which is what I hope to always do. I strive to continue to pass down what my teachers have instilled upon me, as well as educate my students on the history of dance. If there is one thing I want my students to take away from my class, it is a lesson that my mentors have passed down to me: "nothing to prove, everything to share".
